Structural framework for new Danish swimming complex engineered, prefabricated and assembled by Brüninghoff
Timber and steel in motion
Brüninghoff has already realized numerous landmark projects worldwide – now we are adding the Aquamundo in Nordborg to the list. Surrounded by the picturesque nature of the Danish island of Als, this new swimming facility will soon offer the perfect setting for relaxation and recreation. The project is being developed for Center Parcs – one of Europe's leading providers of resort-style vacations. The architectural design of the building is fascinating. The wave-like structures requires a load-bearing system that is both complex and delicate. Brüninghoff engineered and prefabricated this structure using timber and steel – and the on-site assembly in Denmark was also in our responsibility.

A distinctive structure is being created for a Center Parcs project in Denmark. The swimming pool building is designed with a wave-shaped envelope, meaning that almost every component must be customized. This results in considerable effort during the planning, production, and assembly phases. The building envelope will be constructed using ETFE film. Due to its low self-weight, a particularly slender load-bearing structure can be realized. This structure is composed of glulam (glued laminated timber) elements and steel components.
To support this, our planning spin-of PLANSITE first created detailed construction plans for the glulam elements using a 3D building model, which formed the basis for workshop and assembly drawings. In addition, workshop drawings and machine data for both timber and steel construction were prepared. Brüninghoff is supplying both the steel connectors and the glulam beams – and is responsible for assembling the structure on-site. The opening of the pool is scheduled for summer 2025.
