Modular Stables Facilities Concept “B-Wave“ from Brüninghoff nominated for the EQUITANA Innovation Award

High utilization factor, extraordinary architecture and energy efficiency

Heiden, 17 March 2011. The modern horsekeeping of the future has a name: “B-Wave“. The visionary concept from the German company Brüninghoff GmbH & Co. KG was presented at the global equestrian sports fair in Essen for the first time and was immediately nominated for the EQUITANA Innovation Award. Brüninghoff, a construction-related services provider which specialises in equestrian halls and equestrian sports centres presented “B-Wave“, a modular construction system for horse stables which convinced the jury in all areas such as design, utilisation and energy efficiency.

The Brüninghoff “B-Wave“ concept impresses with unique design elements and the use of new materials. The unusual architecture in wave-form enables a perfect vertical space utilisation on two floors plus a gallery and at the same time, the building optimally adapts itself to the course of a lunging pen or riding arena which is situated opposite. The complete object comprises basic modules such as a stable, care zones, wellness zones, veterinary surgeon zones and training zones which can be implemented in accordance with the customer’s wishes.

Innovative materials: Thermowood and Nanogel
B-Wave buildings are exclusively constructed with energy-efficient and especially resilient materials. Two of the materials which are used here are Thermowood, which is rendered especially weatherproof and durable by being subjected to temperatures exceeding 200 degrees, and Nanogel – extremely thing plastic plates, 95 percent of which comprise air and which have a thermal conductivity which is much lower that that of modern triple-glazing.

Despite the fact that the B-Wave buildings are automated to a high degree, e.g. with strewing and mucking out systems and for the providing of the horses with feed and water, the energy consumption remains at a consistently low level: the independent building supply is ensured by the use of photovoltaic and biomass in order to generate heating and electricity. An energy-efficient air conditioning of the building is provided by water and a cabrio roof.

Brüninghoff developed the “B-Wave“ concept in cooperation with architects, product designers, engineers, material scouts and 3D specialists in the scope of three future workshops. “With B-Wave, we were pursuing numerous goals: an absolutely stress-free feel-good atmosphere for horses, combined with a higher degree of cost effectiveness for the operator“, explained Frank Steffens, the Commercial Manager at Brüninghoff. “This is why we are so pleased to have been nominated for the EQUITANA Innovation Award 2011 as this shows that an independent jury of experts shares our ideas of modern horsekeeping of the future.“
