The world’s first energy-optimised “EcoCommercial Building” (carbon-neutral building) from the Bayer Corporation was opened after only eight months of construction time. The carbon-neutral passive house in Monheim / Rhine, planned by Lars Rössing / tr. architekten and realised by Brüninghoff, was one of ten showcase properties to win the “Energy-Optimised Construction 2009” prize. The 1,300 sqm day care centre can accommodate about 60 of the Bayer staff’s children. The facade is distinguished by a combination of compound thermal insulation systems and colourful cement-bonded particleboard.
